“Santas for Seniors” Kicks Off in Tyler
November 25, 2013 (TYLER, TX) – Make the holiday season special this year for a senior in need by donating new or gently used items to the East Texas Radio Group and Meals on Wheels “Santas for Seniors” gift drive now through the end of December! Donated items will be delivered by some of your favorite radio personalities and Meals on Wheels volunteers and staff directly to homebound seniors. Together, we can make this holiday season bright for a senior who may otherwise receive no holiday gifts or visits from friends and family.
“We began the gift drive last year, and you really can’t imagine the surprise and joy expressed by our clients who, because of the community’s generosity, received a gift for Christmas. Many of our clients spend the holidays alone, and without this program, they wouldn’t have a Christmas gift,” said Mike Powell, Meals on Wheels President/CEO. You can drop your unwrapped gift off at the two East Texas Radio Group locations in Tyler (210 South Broadway, Tyler) and Longview (4408 US Hwy 259 North, Longview); Meals on Wheels Ministry located at 3001 Robertson Road in Tyler, and Starbucks Coffee in Tyler, next to Jason’s Deli.
Meals on Wheels has identified several basic areas of need, so when selecting your gift, consider purchasing an item that falls into one of the following categories:
SMALL HOME APPLIANCES
Super 1 Foods
Blood Pressure Kits
Together, we can all make sure that no senior goes hungry, and no senior is faced with a holiday spent in isolation. Just imagine the joy your gift will bring to a senior in need! More drop off locations will be announced, and if your business would like to collect donations, just call Zoe Lawhorn at (903) 525-0906. You may also call Zoe with any questions regarding “Santas for Seniors.”
Meals on Wheels Ministry currently serves over 3,000 seniors and homebound individuals in 30 communities across six counties including Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties.
