Theatre Northeast is set to present the popular children’s comedy, Curiosity Cat by Chris Grabenstein, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. and December 8 at 2:05 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College.

From the imaginative mind of award winning author Chris Grabenstein comes a very funny, touching new comedy filled with laughter, learning, and heart. Curiosity Cat is the story about displaced children and homeless cats, as well as family and the value of friendship, determination and “curiosity.”

When their mother becomes very ill, Claire and Charlie are forced to live with their father’s Aunt Ginny. A stray cat named Curiosity also wanders into the house. When he accidentally breaks Claire’s prized music box, she immediately throws him out into the streets. Being homeless is an adventure, not a concern, for a cat this curious and cool. Soon the children, with the help of a friendly dog named Fred, set out to rescue Curiosity Cat who is busily trying to help other forlorn felines find homes while simultaneously avoiding newly appointed “cat catcher” who vows to “put him to sleep.”

Filled with memorable characters—such as Coot, the geriatric cat, Slicker, the street smart alley cat, Penelope, the pampered Persian Princess, Fred, the extremely loyal dog, Duke, the homeless Tuxedo Cat, Tubbs, the pleasingly plump cat, Leo, the retired circus lion, and the evil cat catcher Skeevelberger—the play builds to a funny and touching climax that will leave the audiences laughing and cheering!

The cast features Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumni, Angela Horn Chambers from Mt. Pleasant and Nick Derby from Waskom. Other cast members are Lauren Shortnacy, Ariah Burkhalter, Fran Vanover, Henry Vanover, Jenny Vanover, and Jimmy Wise of Mount Pleasant; Marcy Logan and Kathryn Comer of Omaha; Haley Guest of Daingerfield; Corin Carter of Gilmer; Elizabeth Griffin of Pittsburg; and Alisha Richardson of Avinger. The production is directed by NTCC Theatre Director Douglas Hoppock.

Ticket prices are Adults $7, and $5 for ages 17 and under, Sr. Citizens, and NTCC faculty and staff. NTCC students get in free with current ID. Reservations are not required.
