Ice skating rink opens in Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon - The Holiday on Ice Skating Rink sponsored by the Franklin

County Chamber of Commerce will open Friday, Nov. 15 and will operate

through Sunday, Jan. 5.

The E-Z Glide synthetic ice rink covers a total of 4600 sq. ft. and is

located at Little Creek Park, two blocks north of the downtown Mount Vernon.

The rink will operate from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, on

Saturdays from 10:30 a.m to 9:30 p.m., and from 1 to 5:45 p.m. Sundays.

The cost to skate is $5 per person for a one hour session. Skate rental is

included in the fee, but everyone must be wearing socks. Each skater, or

their guardian, will be required to sign a release before being allowed to

participate.

A total of 13 community organizations have registered to help “man” the

rink. The different organizations may provide concessions during their work

times.

Purses, cameras, cell phones, and other extraneous items will not be allowed

on the rink because of the risk of injury during a fall.

The rink will be available for private parties during non-scheduled times.

The fee is $200 for two hours and includes skate rental. To reserve the

rink, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 903-537-4365.

Anyone interested conducting skating or hockey lessons should also contact

the Chamber.
