LETU STUDENT SCHOLARS TO SHARE RESEARCH AT CONFERENCE NOV. 16

(Longview, Texas)— LeTourneau University will host its biennial Student Scholars Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Education Building and Longview Hall at the university campus. The conference theme is “Interpreting Texts, Contexts, and Events.

More than 60 LETU students from a broad variety of disciplines will present their scholarly research by reading their papers, giving presentations, presenting posters, and serving on panel discussions on a range of topics from across the university.

The event is free and open to the public.

“This LETU Scholars Conference gives our undergraduate students the opportunity to engage with the public as they share the scholarly research they are working on in their classes,” said conference director Dr. Jim Watson.  “Students will gain valuable experience, not only in research but in public speaking, skills in demand in both the market place and graduate school.”

Providing the plenary address for the conference, “Strangers, Aliens, and Visitors in the Land:  Migration and Exile Traditions in the Ancient and Modern Worlds,” will be Dr. Wilson Cunha, LeTourneau Assistant Professor of Theology.

Students will have up to 15 minutes to present their work in sessions with other presenters lasting 50 minutes.   The event is sponsored by the Department of Literature and Language Arts, the School of Arts and Sciences, the Margaret Estes Library, and the Honors College.
