Habitat for Humanity plans Stud Show as Kick Off to Annual Women Build
Longview Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Stud Show on October 10th to kick off Women Build. The Stud Show is a ladies night out with appetizers and dessert, shopping, a silent auction and the Bling A Stud contest and show. Participants can decorate a construction stud, (1 X 1 X 8 foot boards used to frame a home) in any fashion that they choose and a group of fun-loving gentlemen, also studs, will model the decorated boards fashion show style. Prizes will be awarded for the top five blinged studs and the audience will vote for Stud of the Year with tips. On October 19th, the decorated studs will be used in the actual construction of the Women Build home located at 406 Harrison Street. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity.
“At its heart Women Build is about women helping women create a better life for their families,” said LaJuan Hollis, Executive Director. “Our goal is to raise awareness concerning the effects of poverty housing on the family, encourage women to join us and have fun doing it! We have wine and food, music, shopping, chocolate and bling! What better way to spend a Thursday with your friends and support an important cause, too. Some ladies want to come onto the build site and swing a hammer or wield a paint brush, but for others that just isn’t possible. Everyone can enjoy the Stud Show and be an important part of Women Build,” she said.
The event is slated for October 10th at the East Texas Builders Association event center, 2023 Alpine Road. 5:30-9:00. Tickets are $35 each in advance or $40 at the door. Call 903-236-0900 ext. 204 or email DShupe@longviewhabitat.org.
