Avinger TX – Avinger Volunteer Fire Department was chosen to

conduct a live fire and sprinkler side-by-side educational

demonstration by the national nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler

Coalition (HFSC) to increase its home fire sprinkler education

locally.

With funding through a contract with the United States Fire

Administration (USFA), HFSC selected 25 fire departments

nationwide that participate in the “Built for Life Fire Department”

program to participate. “Built for Life Fire Departments” commit to

making home fire sprinklers a focus of their educational efforts.

“We are privileged to participate in this program,” says Fire Chief

Kyle Downs. “With the help of HFSC’s educational material, we can move forward with this important educational

demonstration, which illustrates the danger of home fires and the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinklers.”

The live demonstration will include two similarly furnished rooms — one protected with fire sprinklers and the other not.

People who attend the demonstration will be able to experience firsthand how quickly a fire can become deadly versus the

effectiveness of a fire sprinkler system in controlling a fire.

The public, firefighters, city/county/parish planners, developers and contractors are invited to attend the live fire

demonstration during 2013 Fire Prevention Week on October 12th

at 5:00 p.m. in the field behind Avinger Schools, 245

Conner Street, in Avinger. Event parking is available in the Avinger school parking lot.
