Parents are their child’s first and most important teacher. Parents and their children’s school have something in common: Both want their child to learn and do well. Therefore, session highlights will include the following:
Recognizing and valuing the role of the parent/guardian at home
Understanding the school expectations
Learning techniques on how to effectively communicate with teachers
Participants will leave with knowledge of what information to bring to a parent/teacher conference and what questions to ask. This session applies to parents/guardians of all school age students.
The sessions will be offered Saturday, October 5th at Gilmer Elementary from 9:00 AM- 10:00 AM. A session in Spanish will be offered at the same time. Snacks will be provided. A repeat of this session will be held on Monday, October 7 at Gilmer Elementary at 6:00 PM- 7:00 PM. Again, a Spanish session will be available as well as snacks.
This is the first of a six part series offered by GISD. Mrs. Johnson stated that there is undeniable research that points out when parents/guardians are involved in their child’s education the student’s grades are higher, their attendance is better, and they are less likely to drop out.
