SO investigates death as possible homicide

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a possible homicide death in the county.

On Monday, Aug. 26, around 1:30 p.m. the Upshur County Sheriff Office was dispatched to a residence in the southwestern part of Upshur County in reference to a welfare concern.

Upon arrival, deputies located a subject who was deceased. The deceased was identified as Jack E. Pierce, 45, of Gilmer.

Deputies found the scene to be suspicious and Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office were contacted. Investigator’s requested an autopsy, which was ordered by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Laura Norred.

Investigation into the possible homicide are continuing, a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
