The Gilmer City Council approved Fall clean-up for Sept. 23-26 this year. The action came at Tuesday’s night’s meeting of the council.

Clean-up on the east side of U.S. 271 will be on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23 and 24; and on the west side of U.S. 271 on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 25 and 26.

Residents are asked to follow the collection schedule and to place leaf bags, brush or junk items curbside by 7 a.m. each day to ensure pick-up. Items must weight no more than 50 pounds. Brush must be bundled, cut into 3- to 5-foot lengths, and be no more than 12 inches in diameter.

Due to the large coverage area, residents will be limited to one truckload of brush or trash per household.

Residents may also take one truckload per household to the old city dump on Sept. 23, 25 and 28. No permit will be necessary, but a current City of Gilmer water bill will be required to dump. Your water bill will be stamped.

No tires, liquids, shingles, paint cans, products containing asbestos, air conditioners, electronics or refrigerators will be picked up or accepted at the old city dump.

The City no longer allows dumping of brush and other yard waste on Henderson St. at the rear of the Public Works Annex. However, residents can obtain a permit at City Hall for access to the old city dump, which is open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

“The City, as always, will continue to help residents clean up limbs, brush and trees after storm events,” said a news release from the city.
