Dr. Jason Murry presents papers at International Surgery Week meeting in Helsinki, Finland

Former Gilmer resident Jason Murry was selected to present two papers at the International Surgery Week biannual meeting in Helsinki, Finland Aug. 25-29.

The prestigious meeting of surgeons is sponsored by the International Society of Surgery(ISS). The Society represents five integrated societies and surgeons from more than 100 countries. The Societies represented by the the ISS are the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care, Breast Surgery International, the International Association for Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition, and the International Society of Digestive Surgery.

The ISS has a goal to provide for international teaching in both specialized and general surgery and to work towards world-wide surgical care improvement by advancing surgical training and education. Over 2500 members from all over the world were present at the assembly.

The topics of the papers presented by Dr. Murry were Supersized? A 10 Year Review of Trauma Patient Comorbidities and Driving Intoxicated: Is Hospital Admission Protective Against Legal Ramifications?

Dr. Murry, who attended Gilmer schools, is currently the co-chief resident of the surgical program at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. At the completion of his surgical residency in June 2014, Dr. Murry plans to continue his training by accepting a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care Management. He is the son of Dr. Steve and Cindy Murry.
