East Texas Book Fest 2013 Set for September 14 at Rose Center

More than 60 Texas authors will be on display in Tyler at the 5th annual East Texas Book Fest. The event takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, at the Tyler Rose Center, 420 Rose Park Drive, Tyler. Award-winning and best-selling authors for readers of all ages will be available to talk to attendees and autograph books at this popular regional event that celebrates writers, books, reading, and libraries.

This diverse group of authors comes from many parts of Texas - from as far away as Odessa and San Antonio and as nearby as next door. They also write in many genres in both fiction and nonfiction. Among the highlighted authors are Bruce Foster, king of popup books; Joan Hallmark, local television star; and Elvis, the therapet dog who has written a book about his career; and Naomi Carrier, who has written 15 plays; and many more outstanding writers.

In addition to the book exhibits, the Book Fest will feature storytellers in a special nook for children and free take home books for the first 100 children to arrive at the Book Fest. In addition, the first 150 adults to arrive will receive goody bags full of useful coupons and other items.

"It's fun! It's free! It's for the whole family! And it's right here in Tyler at the Rose Center!" says Book Fest Chair Jeanne Standley. "We can't wait for East Texans to see who's here and what's happening this year."

The East Texas Book Fest is presented by SALT, an organization of Smith County public libraries, including Bullard Community Library, Lindale Library, Troup Municipal Library, Tyler Public Library, and Whitehouse Community Library, and by the Muntz Library at UT Tyler.

Generous funding from the Smith County Library Foundation, Friends of Smith County public libraries, and Humanities Texas, the state’s affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, make it possible to offer the Book Fest free to the public. Many local individuals and local businesses also make contributions.
