Jeffersons community theatre, the Opera House Theatre Players, will present "An Evening With Marilyn: Dialogue and Song" featuring impressionist Jane Maddox as Marilyn Monroe.
Ms. Maddox, who has been a performer in both community and semi-professional theatres from Oregon to Texas first became acquainted with the persona of the late actress when she played the role of The Girl in the stage play "The Seven Year Itch". The play was an instant hit to audiences and her characterization of one of the roles that made Monroe famous was so successful that she was asked to repeat the character many times for various events around the state.
No stranger to theatre, Ms. Maddox has performed in "Lend Me A Tenor", "Noises Off", "Run For YourWife", "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" and musicals such as "The Sound of Music" and "The Wizard of Oz". For her portrayal of Marilyn, Ms. Maddox changes several times to costumes that were associated with her more celebrated films.
The event will begin at 6 pm with Pink Champagne and Hors d'oeuvres being served under a canopy on the lawn in front of the Jefferson Playhouse. While theatre-goers are visiting, they may also bid on a number of silent auction times relative to Marilyn Monroe that will be displayed on a table. The items include a large "diamond"; a special-message tee shirt; a collectable poster from a film; a framed photo of Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in their costumes from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"; a Marilyn coverlet, and an original oil painting.
The performance will begin at 7:15 in the Playhouse which is limited to 90 seats. Advance reservations are recommended in order to have a seat. Tables for a suggested donation of $20 or more will be set up in front of the canopy for the party and show as well as for purchasing of renewing memberships with the theatre group that is kicking off its 25th season.
