Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards, the state's highest environmental honor. These annual awards recognize achievements across Texas that significantly reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and prevent pollution. Deadline for applications is Oct. 4.

"The honorees selected for these prestigious awards represent an understanding of stewardship we must embrace to protect our natural resources for future generations," said TCEQ Chairman Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D.

"Challenges brought on by both nature, as in the case of drought, and continued population growth, require innovative thinking," said Commissioner Carlos Rubinstein. "Nominees for the TEEAs exhibit best practices that we all can learn from."

"The State of Texas is blessed with people who appreciate the diversity of our landscape and want to take care of it," said Commissioner Toby Baker. "While most aren't clamoring for the limelight, highlighting successful projects helps us all do more to protect our environment."

The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards are presented annually by the governor's office and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. A governor's blue ribbon committee identifies outstanding contributions in nine diverse categories. The public may nominate an individual, community, company, or organization for an award. Award categories include: Agriculture, Civic/Community, Education, Individual, Innovative Operations/Management, Pollution Prevention, Technical/Technology, Water Conservation, and Youth.

To nominate an exemplary environmental effort for the 2014 awards, apply online at www.TEEA.org.

"The award has definitely garnered more attention for the Lake Conroe Habitat project. The award and video have been highlighted in numerous press releases. We continue to be grateful for the recognition generated by the award and the fine video available to continually tell the story."
