Have a hot time at the stadium
If you don’t like high school football, you have probably figured out by now that you’re in the minority in Texas.
This evening at 7 p.m., regardless of the intensity of this typical August heat wave we’re experiencing, the place to be for those of us who do is at Buckeye Stadium.
The Gilmer Buckeyes, recently named by MaxPreps as Texas’ seventh-ranked high school football dynasty over the last 10 years, will be there along with their fellow Gilmer High School students in various other extracurricular programs.
Athletic Director Jeff Traylor, who heads up what is without question one of the best coaching staffs around, will emcee the event.
This is always a time of good feeling as our community comes together to celebrate not just our football team or volleyball team, but ALL of our youth.
Any community that doesn’t encourage its youth is a dying one. The Buckeyes remind those of us who are older and perhaps jaded that there was a time in our lives when all things seemed possible.
It’s never too late to attempt to recapture that feeling. You can become a Buckeye at any time in your life. You don’t have to have gone to school here to claim that title.
So wear your orange and/or black, show up at the vastly improved facility on Bradford Street and let’s all get pumped up for the 2013 season.
