High School Coaches Association "Our Day to Shine"
SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE PARTICIPATE IN “OUR DAY TO SHINE”
The Texas High School Coaches’ Association Board of Directors voted at the 2004 December board meeting to create a benevolence fund to enhance aid for permanent injury and memorial benefit candidates. This fund allows the Foundation to help beyond the present permanent injury and memorial benefit policies currently in place. To aid in the funding, the Board of Directors voted to create the “THSCEF – Our Day to Shine” scrimmages to be held on the first scrimmage date of the football season. Other sports have also begun to participate in this worthy cause.
This gives our athletes, coaches and schools a great opportunity for community service as well as an opportunity to give to a worthy cause. Schools choosing to participate in this annual event will forward the admission price (less expenses) to the THSCA Benevolence Fund and designate it as “Our Day to Shine”. Both schools participating will be recognized in the October issue of Texas Coach.
To date “Our Day to Shine” has involved over 800 schools and raised over $245,000 for the THSCEF Benevolence Fund. The Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation has paid over $175,000 to athletes and coaches with special needs and hardships.
