Abbott Focused On Partisan Politics, Not Voting Rights

Austin, Texas – After Attorney General Holder announced action to make sure that Texas does not discriminate against Hispanics and African Americans, Greg Abbott chooses to focus on partisan politics over protecting the right to vote.

Speaking to Fox News yesterday, Abbott declared that AG Holder is partnering with the Texas Democratic Party – not to ensure the legal enforcement of the right to vote, but because of politics.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa responds in the below statement:

“As a federal court recently found, maps created by Texas Republicans ‘provided more evidence of discriminatory intent than we have space, or need, to address here.’ Every Texan voter should wonder why Abbott so strongly opposes having to show that he isn’t further discriminating against Hispanics and African Americans. What Greg Abbott should be worried about is eliminating discrimination. The Texas Democratic Party remains proud of our leadership in the fight for fair and equal access to the right to vote.”
