Two-Disc Collection Includes Sports Documentaries Highlighting the Traditions and History of the Southeastern Conference (SEC)

ESPN Home Entertainment, in conjunction with Team Marketing, announced today that they will release the "SEC Storied Volume 2 Collection" on September 24, 2013.  From the producers of ESPN Films' award-winning "30 for 30" series, this collection of films includes four feature documentaries from the second season of SEC Storied each highlighting remarkable athletes and moments from the SEC's storied past.  The "SEC Storied Volume 2 Collection" will be available in stores and online on September 24.

"SEC Storied Volume 2 Collection" contains four exceptional stories capturing the deep and historic influence the SEC conference has had on college athletics and the world of sports at large.    The films included in the collection, from Sylvester Croom's journey to become the conference's first African American head coach to the trying career of University of Kentucky star and NBA "bust" Sam Bowie, offer in-depth looks into the legendary athletes and unforgettable moments that have made the SEC the most famous conference in college sports.

"The passion and intensity of SEC fans is unrivaled in the world of college sports and the SEC Storiedseries takes an in-depth look the extraordinary moments and incredible characters that have inspired that passion," said ESPN Films Vice President Connor Schell.  "Each story within the series tells these dramatic human stories of triumph, tragedy, inspiration and defeat in ways that we hope will excite and inspire all audiences."

This two-disc set includes four films from the SEC Storied series in addition to bonus features including deleted scenes and extended interviews. "SEC Storied Volume 2 Collection" will be available in stores onSeptember 24 and pre-order on August 13.  The suggested retail price is $24.95.

The films included in the collection are:

CROOM (directed by Johnson McKelvy / SEC Schools: University of Alabama, Mississippi State)

Croom tells the story of Sylvester Croom - a coach who has been tested by some of the most difficult circumstances society has to offer but, through his conviction and character, has impacted countless lives.  The film chronicles Croom's rise to become head football coach at Mississippi State University and, more importantly, the first African American head coach in the SEC.

GOING BIG (directed by Jon Fish and Tom Friend / SEC School: University of Kentucky)

As one the nation's top high school recruits, Sam Bowie was considered a potential franchise player.   After leading the University of Kentucky to the Final Four in 1984, Bowie was selected with the second pick in the NBA draft, one spot ahead of Michael Jordan.  Bowie had a long and relatively productive pro career despite recurring leg injuries, yet he got labeled as a bust because of the lofty expectations. Going Big will tell Bowie's story of perseverance and determination

MIRACLE 3 (directed by Rory Karpf / SEC Schools: University of Alabama, Mississippi State

On March 14, 2008, Alabama found itself trailing Mississippi State 59-56 in the final seconds of a quarterfinal game. Crimson Tide guard Mykal Riley sank a last-second three-pointer as time expired, sending the game into overtime. That shot not only extended Alabama's season for the moment, but it may have prevented thousands of fans from pouring into the city streets just as a tornado touched down outside the Georgia Dome a few minutes later. In Miracle 3, director Rory Karpf explores how a stunning and potentially devastating weather event touched off a series of situations that tested all involved like never before.

ABBY HEAD ON (directed by Erin Leyden and Gentry Kirby / SEC School: University of Florida)\

A phenom from Rochester, NY, Abby Wambach defied convention by spurning soccer dynasty North Carolina in favor of the University of Florida, an upstart program which, at the time, was only in its fourth year of existence. That decision paid off, with Wambach leading Florida to a national championship and four SEC Tournament titles.  Abby Head On shows how Wambach, recently honored as the 2012 FIFA Player of the Year, has made her mark on the sport and become one of the best this country has ever produced.

ESPN Films launched the "Storied" documentary series in September 2011, presenting fans the opportunity to explore the rich athletic history of the Southeastern Conference. From extraordinary athletes and coaches to defining games and moments, the "Storied" series features films from the SEC's recent and more distant past.
