THIS MONUMENT, in honor of Confederate soldiers from Upshur County who served during the Civil War and those veterans who settled here after the war, was dedicated in ceremonies Saturday at the Historic Upshur Museum on the square in downtown Gilmer. Sam Allen, a retired Dallas police officer and Friend of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, which sponsored the event, drew applause for his remarks. Allen is a member of the SCV State Color Guard.
