Ain’t It Cool News – “Had me gut laughing.”

Austin Chronicle — “One of the greatest movies about summer camp…ever.”

Time Magazine (Kids Edition) – “My favorite movie is Summerhood. It’s an awesome independent film.”

(Winner! Best Feature, Best Director and Audience Award at over a dozen festivals; list available)

Los Angeles – June 4, 2013 – With the sharp rise in childhood obesity, diabetes and other serious health concerns, junk food fundraisers are now being pulled from US schools, state by state. Leaving a multi-billion dollar deficit in afterschool programs. At the same time, school budgets have been slashed, placing even more of the burden on individual communities, students and parents to raise funds for everything from technology in the classroom to sports and other extracurricular activities.

STUDIOS repeatedly burn through $25M-$80M on disposable campaigns for each new film, relying on ineffective traditional advertising in an already saturated media space—costly efforts that offer no guarantee on turnout.

FILMRAISER®—Partnered with United Way Worldwide and working with Regal Cinemas, lets students sell tickets to advance screenings of upcoming Hollywood movies, and keep a portion of the evening's box office as a meaningful fundraiser for their extracurricular activities: drama, music and sports—critical opportunities for young adults to build self esteem and learn teamwork.

FILMRAISER® provides students with a real option to raise substantial money through safer and more ethical efforts. The program has been successfully working with Canadian student councils since 2009 and is expanding into the U.S. with a slate of upcoming titles. This includes SUMMERHOOD, written and directed by former Dreamworks Animator Jacob Medjuck, who founded Filmraiser when his feature won major honors just as Blockbuster went bankrupt. (Without the prospect of backend revenue to offset the massive marketing costs required to release popular festival titles, studios stopped buying independent films and hundreds of them were "orphaned").

“Every time I see a giant billboard I think—that's a school without art supplies. There is a better way to direct advertising dollars. And we have one."

"The dream is that one day, the hundreds of millions of dollars wasted on traditional advertising, will instead pay for musical instruments, art supplies, theater sets and sports equipment, for students to pursue the things that inspire them—while driving young audiences in to see quality movies theatrically, benefiting all parties involved.”

– Jacob Medjuck, Writer/Director of Summerhood, (Founder) Filmraiser.

About Summerhood

This award-winning comedy, directed by filmmaker Jacob Medjuck is available today as an early Digital Download, special preview: at www.chill.com/Summerhood or use: tinyurl.com/campfilm

Narrated by John Cusack (Say Anything, High Fidelity), this serrated sendoff on childhood is a heartfelt coming-of-age comedy with a wild retro 80's soundtrack.  “Does camp feel like prison?” asks this summer saga of four best friends on the brink of maturity.  Young Fetus, struggles for status while confused by his first summer love.  Abandoned by his friends, rejected by love, and confined, Fetus risks a summer without sunlight for romance and glory.

Critics have uniformly praised SUMMERHOOD; which has earned private screenings at PIXAR and Harvard. Ain’t It Cool News says, “Medjuck reminds me very much of a young Ben Stiller.  He has a knack for comedic timing…”.  Collider.com writes, “Not just one of the best I’ve seen in this festival, but also one of the best I’ve seen about childhood ever.”

The film will open theatrically via FILMRAISER® at Regal Cinemas in October, with CableVOD, iTunes, and Amazon available on August 6th, 2013. Schools that sign-up over the summer at www.Filmraiser.com will get to screen upcoming movies as fundraisers. Colleges will screen Summerhood (and can preview now). Grades K-12 will get a different title.
