Saturday, June 1, the Corps of Engineers Hurricane Creek recreation area on Lake O’ The Pines, will be the scene of the 14th Annual Kids Free Fish Day.

Sponsored by the Pine Cone Fishing Club and eagerly supported by community volunteers and local businesses, the event draws young girls & boys, ages 2 – 16, and accompanying adults from as far away as Houston and surrounding states such as Oklahoma and Arkansas.

After bank fishing for three hours, from 9 – noon, the kids bring in their big catches of Bass, Bluegill, Red Ear, Stripers, Catfish, & even a few turtles & crawfish!! All catches are weighed and digitally recorded for posterity, weights ranging from fish that will not even register on the scales up to as large as they can catch!!

Prizes donated by local businesses and trophies are awarded to four different age groups for the heaviest total weight of a stringer, but the real cash prizes go to the top three biggest fish. Various special prizes are awarded periodically during the tournament.

Tackle, live bait, snacks, drinks and lunch are all furnished totally free to all participants and their accompanying adults.

This is an event that is well worth the effort of all the volunteers, businesses, moms & dads!!
