Dylan Bowman, a Senior at Gilmer High School, recently gave his verbal commitment to play baseball at East Texas Baptist University, in Marshall, Texas.

Bowman, a 4 year baseball letterman at Gilmer, has been a three year All District 2nd baseman and was being recruited by several DII, NAIA and NJCAA schools.

“I was being recruited by Coach Hood and Coach Peterson at ETBU for the past six months or so,” Bowman said. “I have visited the campus several times and always felt like that was were I was supposed to be. After prayer and talking with my mom and dad, I drove over to the campus to tell the coaches in person that I would be part of the ETBU family starting in the fall. Coach Driggers and the other coaches have turned that program around, with qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time in 8 years, and I cannot wait to be part of the team and the college.”

Bowman, also an All District Safety, Punt Returner and captain of the Class 3A State Final football team, is currently ranked in the Top 20% of his class and recently received the first KETK-Trinity Mother Frances Student Athlete of the Week. In addition, Bowman was named to the Class 3A All State Academic football team in Texas.

“Dylan is a great young man with a hard nosed work ethic. He understands the game and knows how to fill his role as a leader and a team player. He is a great student of the game. ETBU is getting a student athlete that is an intelligent, hard working player,” said Gilmer coach Lonnie Henry. “They will be pleased to have him and he will do a fine job for them.”

Gilmer, who recently wrapped up the District 16-3A District Championship, with a 10-1 district record, will be playing in the state playoffs for the second year in a row. Bowman, who bats leadoff and plays 2nd base, is among the area leaders in on base percentage, batting average, hits, runs and stolen bases.
