Kilgore College Workforce Development and Continuing Education will offer an eight-week course, “Machining and Lathe Fundamentals,” beginning April 22.
The 64-hour course will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through June 4.
Classes will be in the KC Machine Lab of the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center, 220 N. Henderson in Kilgore.
Tuition is $475 per person plus a textbook.
Theory, terminology and practical hands-on applications will be taught. Students will learn basic bench work, part layout, basic lathe set-up and engine lathe components.
Metal operations taught will include turning, facing, drilling, grooving, turning on center and threading.
A variety of common measuring tools will be examined. Shop safety, housekeeping, preventative and machine maintenance will also be emphasized.
Skills learned in the course are in demand by businesses in the manufacturing industries.
Students completing the course will earn 6.4 hours of continuing education credits as well as a skills certificate, both of which are recognized by area employers.
