I want to go back to school but I am scared. I am scared of failing, scared of how much it costs, scared of how I will juggle my schedule, and most of all I am scared of being close to 40 and going back to school.

I already have my bachelors degree in communications but I got that over 10 years ago. Being in college 10 years ago was fun; it was an adventure. Now just preparing to find a college is overwhelming.

The main reason I decided to go back to school was for my son and for any future children I may have. You hear stories of the sacrifices parents make for their children. I want to be one of those parents. I know that taking care of my 90 year old mother, my one year old son, working full time, and going to school is going to be a huge endeavour.

During my research of universities, I came across a Website that offers free online classes for anyone to take. I am not talking about just the basic classes either. Complex classes from top-ranked university from across the world. On their Website they state that they want to empower people with education that will improve their lives, the lives of their families, and the communities they live in.

I decided to sign up for a couple of courses and soon found out, this is no joke. I enrolled in Internet History, Technology, and Security. The class is taught by Charles Severance and the class is based out of the University of Michigan. I am also taking a class from Duke University.

Not only am I learning from top-notch professors, I am interacting with students from across the globe. The best part is the classes are free. I feel empowered each time I go to class. Not only am I learning, I am gaining the confidence I need to go get my masters degree.

I havent made my final decision as to which university I would like to go to. I keep thinking about all the logistics it involves. I keep thinking about the money. I keep thinking will I be able to keep up. I dont want to fail, but I know that if I dont try that will be even a bigger failure.

If you would like to improve your life, learn something new, test yourself to see if you are ready to go back to school or go to school for the first time, check out www.coursera.org.
