April 2013

A Veteran listed the following on a sheet of paper: The 4th , 5th  and 6th  Amendments to the Constitution; a statement by the US Attorney General authorizing the Office of the President to use unmanned drones to kill US citizens on American soil; and a statement from the ACLU on the “courageous” attempt by a US Senator to obtain more information about domestic drone use.

The Veteran took his paper to work for his friends to read in the break room.  Returning later he found it torn to pieces.  Holding back tears he gathered the pieces, taped them back together and took the paper home.

Every Veteran has taken an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…”  How well we protect our Constitution today determines the freedom we have tomorrow.

Should you ever find our Constitution torn apart, take a moment to put the pieces back together.

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures…” -Amendment IV

No person shall be … deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…” -Amendment V

“… the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury… [and] to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.”  -Amendment VI
