Recording artist/singer Laura Lee Bishop, who grew up in Gilmer, and Bennett Jackson will perform in a free musical program in downtown Gilmer at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Joe Newsom Law Office at 203 W. Tyler, just off the square’s southwest corner, is sponsoring and hosting the event.

Miss Bishop, who returned in December from going to American Idol, has been living in Austin. The singer/guitarist plans to move to Nashville, Tenn., in April to perform and do songwriting.

She is the daughter of Gilmer attorney Karen Bishop and the late David Bishop.
