The public is invited to celebrate the importance of trees at an Arbor Day celebration in Gilmer.

The event is set for 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the Yamboree Livestock Barn off U.S. 271 North in Gilmer.

Foresters with Texas A&M Forest Service will give away Southern red oak, flowering dogwood, southern crabapple, white oak, yellow poplar, bald cypress and Virginia pine trees. There is a limit of five trees per person and per family and one species per person and per family. The trees were donated by ArborGen commercial forestry company.

Arbor Day is observed nationwide as a celebration of planting and nurturing trees and recognizing the many ways that trees enrich our lives.
