Gilmer FFA Agriculture Mechanics Team exels at Houston Livestock Show

THE GILMER FFA AG MECHANICS TEAM, which received the coveted  Dr. Billy Harrell Award of Excellence at the recent Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, includes, below from left, Madeline Oller, Juan Lopez, Corbin Johnson, Justin Vestal, Adam Walker, Clay Gunby and Kayla Smith. Lopez and Gunby also placed 2nd in showmanship for a 20-foot gooseneck lowboy trailer that they constructed for the show. They received a Lincoln Range welder and a variety of other tools and supplies, valued at more than $3,000. The Gilmer FFA Agriculture Mechanics Team participated last week in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Ag Mechanics Show.

The team won a special award—the Dr. Billy Harrell Award of Excellence. It is named for Dr. Harrell, long-time Agricultural Mechanics professior at Sam Houston State University. He was instrumental in starting the Ag Mechanics Show at Houston and across the state.

This special award is presented to the FFA Ag mechanics teams that display details in their work, strong work ethic, dedication and high expectations for themselves.

The students received this tremendous honor during a special award presentation during the Houston show.
