“The 20th Rotary Spelling Bee for Literacy is shaping up to be not only our fundraiser, but a great evening for the community to enjoy. The 2013 Spelling Bee needs teams,” said Literacy Program Director Carolyn Williams.
“We hope that your friends, coworkers and even church family will consider forming a team consisting of three members. We have all the information you need. Just call the literacy program at 903-843-3360.”
Teams are the heart of the event, she said.
Amy Patterson will be the pronouncer again this year, and the team competition is sure to be lively. The team with the most enthusiastic supporters will win the Spirit Stick.
The evening begins with a barbecue dinner catered by Bodacious, with all the trimmings.
The raffle will be set up and Rotarians will be selling tickets, so that you can drop your ticket into the jar that goes with your favorite items. Be prepared to also purchase tickets for the big auction items.

“We have everything from beautiful art by local artists, to NASCAR tickets and much more,” Mrs. Williams said.
Next, the supporters and audience will meet the teams.
Currently, five teams are entered. They are the First National Bank, Gilmer National Bank, First United Methodist Church, The Teacher Bees sponsored by Henry Troell and State Farm Insurance, and the Gilmer High School students’ team sponsored by Croley’s Funeral Home.
