Dallas, TX - Coach Avery Johnson, former head coach of the Dallas Mavericks will deliver dynamic messages to students at two school assemblies in Richardson ISD on Wednesday, February 27.

Coach Johnson's mission is to inspire and motivate middle school and high school students to avoid the pitfalls of poor choices, overcome life's obstacles, respect teachers and others, and stay in school. The themes of his messages vary according to school, some of the topics are:

  • It's Time to PRACTICE!
  • It's Time to Go to Higher Ground
  • Somebody's Watching
  • If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes

Coach Johnson has been a speaker with the Dallas non-profit, Just Say YES - Youth Equipped to Succeed (JSY) for over three years. Founder and President of JSY, Dan Bailey, and Coach Johnson became friends while he was head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. Avery asked Dan if Just Say YES could schedule him to speak to youth in schools across the country. Dan's response was an immediate "YES". School administrators are thrilled to have the "2006 NBA Coach of the Year" visit and speak to their students at no cost to the school. Coach Johnson's programs are donor funded.

The Coach believes so strongly in the positive impact of the Just Say YES message, that he is making a donation to help fund Just Say YES' follow-up programs in the school districts where he will be speaking.
