SOME OF the Gilmer High School twirlers were invited to perform at pregame and halftime at the Cotton Bowl through their private twirling studio; owner and Gilmer High School twirler sponsor, Blair Maxwell. Pictured from left are Penelope Vestal, Melina Prince, Kat Ivey, Lauren Jones and Kailon Culberson. These girls left on Wednesday, Jan. 2, in order to prepare for the performances on Friday, Jan. 4 in Dallas. They practiced nonstop for 2 1/2 days, along with other twirlers, flags, dancers and the Kilgore College Rangerettes. The twirlers were featured on the front of the field at Cowboys Stadium for both pregame and halftime. “This will probably be by far the largest crowd these girls will twirl in front of: 87,025 people were at the A&M and OU game. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am so glad these girls got to take advantage of it!” Ms. Maxwell said.
