Although NJHS is an 8th grade club, the 7th grade students also brought their fair share of canned food items.
Together, the 7th and 8th grade students were able to collect 1,600 canned goods.
After the collection, the NJHS donated the canned goods to the Gilmer Lions Club and the Upshur County Shares Food Pantry at First Baptist Church in Gilmer.
Each year, NJHS and Gilmer Lions work together to feed those less fortunate in the community.
The Lions Club donates perishable items to the food baskets, such as hams, eggs, milk, Christmas cookies, butter, etc.
It warms the hearts of those who contribute and those who receive, said a school spokesperson.
The National Junior Honor Society and the Gilmer Lions Club thank all who donated food and funds for this project.
