In action against Atlanta Tuesday, it was Homer who led the way with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Her ten offensive rebounds led to six “put backs,” or layups under the hoop.
Angela Oglesby added ten points, seven rebounds, and three steals, and Lativia Johnson grabbed five rebounds, a steal, an assist, and two points.
Diamond Shaw and Ashlyn Ray each had eight points, Jasmin Jones seven, Christian Brown four, and Kiera Edwards two.
In a fast paced game, every Lady Buckeye except Homer had at least one steal and six Lady Buckeyes had assists as they learn to play as a unit. Jones had six assists and Brown six steals to lead the attack.
Gilmer jumped out to a 16-8 lead and then overwhelmed the Lady Rabbs 18-1 in the second quarter for a 34-9 halftime advantage.
Crystal Jones and Fierra hall were the high point players for Atlanta with seven points each.
In the first game of the season, a 66-29 win over New Boston Tuesday, Nov. 6, three Lady Buckeyes scored in double figures, with senior starter Oglesby leading the way with 17 points, five rebounds and seven steals.
Jones added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while Johnson had ten points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
In her first varsity game, Homer had nine rebounds to lead Gilmer in that category, blocked two shots, and scored eight points.
Brown also scored eight points, had three steals, three assists, and a block.
Ritter and Ray each contributed six rebounds. Ritter added a steal, a block and one point while Ray had four points, three steals and three assists.
China Watson with four points, a rebound and two steals, and Shaw with two points, one steal, and two assists rounded out the scoring against New Boston.
After facing New Diana at home Tuesday, Gilmer will break for the Thanksgiving holidays.
