HAMMOND, La. - Sophomore running back Gus Johnson of Gilmer tied a single-game school record with four rushing touchdowns in a losing effort Saturday night in Hammond, La. The 'Jacks (4-6/3-3 SLC) dropped a 42-27 decision to Southeastern Louisiana.
Johnson finished the night with 124 yards on 28 carries. He had scoring runs of 13, 4, 19 and 11. SFA finished the game 380 yards of total offense, which ended a streak of four consecutive games of at least 500 yards of total offense. It also marked the first time in 2012 that SFA has been outgained, 487-380.
Southeastern Louisiana dominated the first 23:20 of the game, but the Lumberjacks managed to take a one-point advantage into the locker room. SLU jumped out to a 14-point lead after an opening drive that went 11 plays for 76 yards, and consumed 6:02 off the clock. After forcing an SFA three-n-out, the Lions Tony McCrea took a Nick Bruno punt 54 yards to give Southeastern Louisiana a 14-0 lead.
