Eagle Scout candidate Brandon Perez met his Eagle Scout requirements growing up in the Gilmer community.
He chose to give back to the community through service in the Pine Acres Addition.
The idea was suggested by Merle Cross, chairwoman for the Keep Gilmer Beautiful Committee, and approved by the Gilmer City Council on Oct. 9.
City Manager Jeff Ellington appointed City Project Manager Danny Lancaster to oversee the completion of the project. The project began on Thursday, Nov. 1, preparing 38 sign poles for painting.
On Saturday, led by Eagle Scout candidate Perez, Troop 386 completed the effort to preserve and clean an area in Pine Acres on the northeast side of Gilmer by painting sign poles.
Brandon now waits for his Eagle Board of Review approval to join the National Eagle Scout Association.
