Ray said he pronounced Karl Oney Jr. dead at the scene at 5:50 a.m. The crash happened about 4:10 a.m. about two-tenths of a mile east of the intersection of Bluebird and Bobolink Road, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Monday.
A DPS spokeswoman in Tyler said Monday that Oney was alone and wearing a seat belt when his westbound 1997 Chevrolet S-10 truck left the oiltop county road and overturned.
Ray quoted the DPS on Sunday as saying the vehicle went off the road, that Oney overcorrected it, and that it went onto the side of an embankment and overturned.
DPS Trooper Robbie Moore investigated the crash.
Judge Ray did not order an autopsy. Oney’s body was taken to Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
