Union With Christ
Pastor Steve Ellison
A person becomes a Christian when God seeks the person, reveals Himself to him, and that person responds in faith. Immediately God begins to work in that man, humbling him and giving him a new set of eyes, a new way of seeing. Then God begins to teach this saved man that he has entered into The Relationship which will change all of his relationships. The Christian life is not about doing. The Christian life is about being, being in proper relationship with God, in union with Christ, abiding in Christ. The two words “in Christ” constitute one of the most important phrases ever put in writing. The New Testament speaks 100 times of the believer being in Christ. Union with Christ is one of the most consistent and persistent themes of the New Testament.
We are told to have faith in Christ and that we are alive to God in Christ. We are new creatures in Christ. New believers are infants in Christ. We have redemption in Christ. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. We were justified in Christ. The Spirit of life in Christ has set us free. The love of God is found in Christ. There is one body, one church, and it is found in Christ. Our only reason for boasting is in Christ. We are approved in Christ. Our sanctification is being done in Christ. The grace of God was given to us in Christ. Our only hope for this life and the next is in Christ. God leads us in triumph in Christ. God the Father has established us in Christ. We are called to speak in Christ. So that we could believe, the veil was removed from our minds in Christ. God the Father reconciled the world to Himself in Christ. Local churches are said to be in Christ. Our Christian liberty is in Christ. The blessing of Abraham came to Gentiles in Christ. Believers are sons of God in Christ. We are one in Christ. God the Father has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Believers are seated in the heavenly places in Christ. All believers regardless of ethnicity or nationality are fellow heirs of the promise of God in Christ. God the Father carried out His eternal purpose in Christ. God gets His glory in Christ. God has forgiven us in Christ. Our encouragement is found in Christ. We are told to have the same mind which is in Christ. We are told to worship and glory in Christ. The upward call of God is found in Christ. The peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ. God will supply all our needs according to the riches in glory found in Christ. We are called to teach so that we may present every person complete in Christ. We are to give thanks to God for this is the will of God for us in Christ. Grace and faith and love are found in Christ. The promise of life is found in Christ. Salvation with eternal glory is found in Christ. Persecution is promised to those who desire to live godly in Christ. The summing up of all things, the end times fulfillment, will all be done in Christ. Believers who have passed from this life are dead in Christ.
There are a multitude of other places in the Scripture where the words “in Christ” are not used but the idea is certainly presented. If you are not “in Christ” you are not His, you are no child of God; you are not adopted into His family. Take the time to read the Bible for yourself to see what it means to be “in Christ”. Nothing is more important. ……..firstname.lastname@example.org
