Bret Myers and his daughter Morgan of Little Mound have been busy sharing their experiences as missionaries in Micronesia with area churches.

The two were part of a Baptist Medical Missions International (BMMI) group who spent time in Weno Island, Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia.

Their team consisted of seven adults and seven youth from Texas, Arkansas, Washington D.C. and Hawaii.

The group set up a free medical clinic and treated over 800 patients for everything from dog bites to skin rashes, infections to hypertension and diabetes. Prescriptions were provided at no charge.

Each patient also received vitamins and parasite treatment.

Several hundred pairs of reading glasses were also given away. This was the part of the ministry that Myers worked in.

He said this was really a blessing, since some of the people had not been able to read in years.

He recalled the expressions of joy on the faces of those who received the glasses.

One woman who was among the last to visit the clinic was thrilled to find that the very last pair of glasses left was just the prescription she needed.

Patients were also given a baseball cap from the United States.

Myers said the group shared the Gospel with each person they treated, and gave away several hundred New Testament Bibles.

They attended Sunday morning worship services with the Chuukese people.

Back in the states, he helped with a campaign to send more glasses to the people.

The trip included a total of 11 days, with seven being spent in Micronesia and the other four traveling. Traveling time was about 18.5 hours each way, with a total of eight different stops including Tokyo Japan, Guam, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Hawaii.
