The Union Grove Middle School band has been selected as the best UIL Class C middle school band in Texas. As a result of this, the band will be performing at the Texas Music Educators’ Association annual convention in San Antonio on Feb.12. The performance is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.

This is a very prestigious award which the band earned by submitting its UIL concert contest recording last May. Over the summer the band’s recording advanced from the region to the area, and state levels. Each time the recording was judged by a panel of five judges.

The Union Grove band has spent the fall and winter preparing for this event and will perform in front of an audience of over 1,000. The band is directed by Aaron Handorf, who is a graduate of Union Grove High School. Under his direction, the band has won many other region, area and state level awards, including four UIL Sweepstakes awards. The TMEA Honor Band is by far the most prestigious award that a band can win. It is comparable with winning state in any other school event.
