LONGVIEW — LeTourneau University plans to launch a new bachelor’s degree in the field of forensic chemistry, beginning Fall 2012.  The program is pending approval from the Council of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry combines chemistry, biology, and criminal justice courses in an interdisciplinary degree to equip students to work in one of the fastest growing fields of chemistry employment.

Forensic chemistry focuses on analyzing evidence from crime scenes and forming conclusions based on scientific testing conducted in professional labs. With the growing use of DNA evidence, forensic chemistry has grown in importance within the field of law enforcement.

“LeTourneau University has long been known for excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Dr. Larry Frazier, dean of LETU’s School of Arts and Sciences.  “With this new degree, we direct the expertise of our chemists to a distinct job market.  We believe our graduates will stand head and shoulders above the competition.”

LeTourneau University is an interdenominational Christ-centered university located in Longview, Texas, offering academic majors in aviation, business, communication, criminal justice, education, engineering, health science-nursing, human services, kinesiology, the liberal arts, the sciences and psychology. LETU also offers graduate degrees in business administration, counseling, education, engineering, psychology and strategic leadership. In addition to its residential campus in Longview, the university offers undergraduate and graduate programs online and at educational centers in Athens, Austin, Baytown, Bedford, Dallas, Harlingen, Houston, and Tyler.
