ETBU Trustees Approve 2012-2013 Budget

MARSHALL (5/04/12)-The East Texas Baptist University Board of Trustees met in regular session today and approved a $32.9 million operating budget for the 2012-2013 academic year. This represents an 8.9% increase over the original 2011-2012 budget. The 2012-2013 budget, which takes effect June 1, includes over $8.51 million for student scholarships, an increase of 6.8% over the current year budget.

“I commend the great work that the ETBU staff and faculty are doing in how they spend budgeted resources each academic year,” said ETBU Board Chair Sam Moseley. “Their dedication to fulfill the mission of the University is preparing our graduates to be Christian leaders in the marketplace.”

“We are blessed beyond measure, grateful to God for His provision for East Texas Baptist University,” added Dr. Dub Oliver, ETBU President. “We seek to be good stewards of all that is entrusted to us, responding to the needs and concerns of our students and their families as we provide the very best educational experience possible.”

The Board of Trustees heard a report concerning the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG) from Raif Calvert. The TEG provides grant aid to financially needy students to enable them to attend private, non-profit colleges or universities in Texas. Calvert is the General Counsel and Communications and Public Affairs Director for the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, or ICUT.

In other board action, Trustees approved new academic minors in Forensic Science, Latin American Studies, Public Relations, and Kinesiology, heard a report about students graduating from ETBU, and appointed a Trustee Officers Nominating Committee.

The Board of Trustees also gathered on Thursday evening to pay tribute to Hal Cornish and Tom Lyles who have most recently served as Chair of the Board. Each was recognized for their many contributions to the health and vitality of the University.

The Board has regularly scheduled meeting three times each year. The next meeting is September 7, 2012.

ETBU has offered quality Christ-centered higher education since 1912. The ETBU Centennial Gala Celebration will be held on October 20, 2012.
