Gilmer, he predicts, will remain in District 16-3A of Region II. Two schools will be leaving the current configuration, he thinks, Pittsburg (to District 15-3A in Region II) and Carthage (to District 19-3A in Region III). They would be replaced, he predicts, by Tatum (moving back up from Class 2A) and Kilgore (moving down from Class 4A).
The district then would consist of Gilmer, Gladewater, Spring Hill, Henderson, Tatum and Kilgore. Gilmer would be the third-largest district in enrollment (629) and thus almost certain to continue to be in Division II come playoff time.
Interestingly, Carthage would not only be changing regions, but would also be the largest school in District 19-3A and thus go into Division I come playoff time.
We will find out how close Padilla's projections are to reality on Feb. 2, 2012, when the UIL officially announces its 2012-13 Realignment.
