Country Music Hall of Fame Member Ray Price will celebrate his 86th birthday performing in concert at 6pm Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Bushman’s Event Center, Highway 69 at FM 2493 East in Bullard, TX.  Doors will open at 5pm.  The concert is presented by The Ranch 104.1 FM and will also celebrate Country Music Hall of Fame DJ Tom Perryman and his wife, Billie’s 65th year in the radio and country music business.  






Tom Perryman was the first regular disc jockey of an all night Country music show on WSM in Nashville, and an General Manager and co-owner of two of the earliest fulltime Country radio stations in America. He was the first DJ/Promoter to bring major Country artists to East Texas when he presented Hank Williams, Sr., Kitty Wells, Johnny and Jack and Slim Whitman in concert at Jacksonville’s Tomato Bowl in 1948. Perryman started in Country radio KEBE Jacksonville TX (1947-1949) at after his high school graduation and returning from the U.S. Navy. He then joined KSIJ Gladewater TX, and became a charter member of the Country Music Disc Jockey Association in 1953. He was named WSM’s Mr. DJ USA in 1954 and then joined WSM Nashville TN (1956-1958). Having simultaneously worked as Talent Coordinator of the Artists Service Bureau and Assistant Manager of The Grand Ole Opry, he left radio for awhile to become co-owner of the All Star Talent Agency (1958-1959). Perryman became General Manager and partner with Jim Reeves at KGRI AM/FM Henderson, TX. He then became General Manager of WMTS AM/FM Murfreesboro TN (1967-1978), which was named CMA Station of the Year in 1969 and was the top ranked Country station in the Nashville market in 1971 and 1972. In 1985 he became Vice President of Jim Reeves Enterprises. Tom Perryman was inducted into the Country Music D J Hall of Fame in 1988. Perryman is currently plays classic Country music in East Texas on “The Ranch” 104.1 KKUS in Tyler TX.  Mr. Perryman and his wife, Billie, have been involved in the promotion of country music for 65 years and have encouraged and helped many young artists, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash, The Browns, Faron Young, Mel Tillis and Ray Price in advancing their careers.  Tom and Billie Perryman were married in 1946.  In addition to raising three children, Billie worked with Tom at many of the radio stations and concerts over the years.  






Among the awards Mr. Perryman has received are; Mr. DJ USA in 1954 at WSM in Nashville (America’s top Country Music DJ), 1984 Gold Medal at the International Radio Festival in New York for his production of the Jim Reeves Documentary, National Country Music DJ Hall of Fame in 1988, Texas Country Music DJ Hall of Fame in 1999, East Tex-Plex Living Legend Award in 2003, Academy of Western Artists Radio Station of the Year for KKUS in 2004, Academy of Western Artists DJ of the Year in 2005, Reunion of Professioal Entertainers Lifetime Achievement and Media Award, Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2005, Quitman Heritage Association Heart of Western Swing Award in 2006, Nominated for Country Music Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2006, Nominated for the Texas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2007, East Texas Tourism Broadcaster of the Year in 2007, Texas International Music Association Hall of Fame in 2007, Awarded The East Texas Radio Group KKUS 104.1 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.  Billie Perryman was awarded the East Texas Radio Group KKUS 104.1 Lifetime Achievement Award for puttng up with Tom since 1946 in 2008.
