A Gilmer woman was killed in a head-on collision Monday on FM 49, three miles west of Gilmer, and two-tenths of a mile west of Elderberry Road.

According to Department of Public Safety reports, Leslie Fay Williams, 43, of 807 Harrison St., Gilmer, was westbound on FM 49 when her 1997 Ford Thunderbird crossed the center line and collided with a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Joseph T. Orms, 19, of Gilmer.

The DPS report said that Orms tried to take evasive action and the right front of each vehicle collided.

Ms. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace W.V. Ray. Orms was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.
