The Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce’s first YAM JAM will be held in downtown Gilmer today (Saturday, Sept. 21).

“We have a full day of fun planned, with live music beginning at 9 a.m., with the last set beginning at 8 p.m.,” said chamber president Miriam Hill.

There will be a barbecue contest with beans, cornbread, greens and yams, with serving beginning at 11 a.m. $10 armbands will be required to enter the barbecue and bandstand area.

There will also be classic cars, tractors and vendors, and a guest appearance by Texas Elite Wrestling on the square outside the gated area.

The music schedule, in order of appearance includes Ladarius Daniels, WireLight, Ryker Hall, Break-Neck, Ricky Lynn Gregg and Bobby Claire, Double-Back, Josh Ferrer, Channel 8, Justin Frost, and Bobby O and the Mojos.

“Come join the fun,” invites Ms. Hill.

It was awful. We paid $20 for one slice of brisket, one spoonful of beans and some raw chicken. Terrible music to boot. This was a waste of time and money.

It was a waste of money. Most of the people serving were very rude. The portions were tiny. The music was comical at best.

We arrived at 5 for the music, and the price had dropped to $3 and there was no bbq and 2 vendors, but the music was great, except for Justin Frost, who acted very rude and unprofessional, by trying to use another musician's expensive keyboard as his own drink holder! When the owner removed moved the drinks off the keyboard and asked him not to put them there, Justin proceeded to cuss him 3 times with very vulgar language. There were young children in the audience and the Yam Jam staff let him continue his rude behavior. We will not attend this event next year.
