Ed and Debbie Williams are putting the finishing touches on their home at 335 Widgeon Lane in Barton Spring Estates as they get ready for the Twentieth Century Tour of Homes Thursday, Dec. 3.
To reach the home, visitors take FM 1650 past the first entry to Barton Springs east of Gilmer before turning right on Cardinal Road. Turn right off Cardinal onto Widgeon and follow the road around a left curve to the second house on the left with the garlands of green, red bells, icicle lights and wreaths over each window.
For five years, the Williams family has enjoyed ther home among the trees of East Texas. After meeting in Tyler, Ed, GHS 1981, and Debbie, a Whitehouse graduate, married and moved to Fort Worth, where they lived 12 years. During those years they had two daughters, Ashley and Catherine, and Debbie became a neo-natal intensive care nurse at Cook’s Children Hospital.
When Good Shepperd, Longview, opened its NICU five years ago, Debbie Williams applied for a position and was hired, stimulating the move back home.
This past year, Grace Ragsdale, Debbie’s 97-year-old grandmother died with the Williams family inheriting much of her Christmas collection.
In the living room, her nutcrackers flank the fireplace where the stockings are hung with care. Nearby large standing white Father Christmases join them.
Angels gather on top of the grand piano, and on top of a breakfront an American village is portrayed.
A Charles Dickens-period village rests on a stand in the entry way, with the sparkling kitchen to its right. Red cherries and garlands abound on the shelves, while the breakfast table is ready in its reds and greens. Santas and snow men dominated the decorations on the cooking island and the breakfront.
One of several manger scenes is on the side table in the dining area, with large wisemen standing nearby.
The master bedroom is a study in browns and cranberry. A large creche from Mrs. Ragsdale is filled with new figures which Ed and Debbie acquired.
Bows and angels add elements of the season to the bath.
Upstairs, Ashley, a Gilmer High cheerleader, chose silver, pink and green for her colors, while Catherine, an eighth grader, has her room decorated to match her pink and chocolate decor.
