WHATABURGER KICKS UP MENU WITH NEW “MONTEREY MELT” BURGER

Double-Meat Sandwich with Monterey Jack, American Cheese, Grilled Onions and Peppers Available for a Limited Time

SAN ANTONIO – April 1, 2013 – This is no April Fools’ Day prank: Whataburger’s new Monterey Melt burger, available for a limited time starting at 3 p.m. today, includes two 100 percent beef patties topped with Monterey Jack and American cheeses, grilled onions and peppers, and Whataburger’s new Jalapeño Ranch sauce.

Whataburger continues to offer even more variety to customers, especially those who enjoy a little extra spice. The melted Monterey Jack and American cheeses form a delicious blend, while the perfect combination of grilled onions, red bell peppers and poblano peppers, as well as the new Jalapeño Ranch sauce, add the bold flavor Whataburger customers crave. The Monterey Melt is available as a meal or a la carte, and also can be ordered as a junior version on a smaller bun.

“The Monterey Melt is a perfect blend of spicy, meaty, melty and grilled perfection. The grilled onions and peppers really complement this burger to make for something special in each and every bite,“ said Whataburger Vice President of Marketing and Innovation Rich Scheffler. “This burger has everything our customers love about Whataburger, and we think they’ll enjoy the combination of flavorful ingredients that make up the Monterey Melt.”

ABOUT WHATABURGER:

Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: "What a burger!" Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, all-American beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 740 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
