At 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, The Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Upshur Rural Electric will “Light the Square.”

This year, Upshur Rural Electric donated numerous lighted Christmas decorations to the Chamber for use on the Courthouse Square.

“We would like to celebrate this new addition by coming together as a community to enjoy their beauty and awe,” said chamber president Miriam Hill. “These lights have been placed around our courthouse and we will officially Light the Square prior to the Christmas parade starting at 6 p.m.”

She said the ceremony will include Christmas music by various groups and individuals, as well as free hot chocolate from Upshur Rural and the Chamber Board of Directors.

“What a wonderful time to come together with friends and family and enjoy our community, share in the fun and sing along with the Yuletide tunes,” she said.

The decorations will actually come to life at 5:30, and there will be music until the parade begins at 6.

“Please make plans to don your Santa hat and come by and celebrate this time with us,” Ms. Hill said.
