Despite stormy skies, the Twentieth Century Club traveled to Karnack, Texas on April 3 for their annual Spring Trip. Trip coordinator Bettye Lou Smith with the assistance of Betty Finney had arrived early and decorated tables at the Big Pine Lodge where the club would dine. The tables featured spring floral arrangements and jeweled purse mirrors for each member, a gift favor from Mrs. Smith. Upon arrival guests were invited to the salad bar and served the restaurant’s famous hushpuppies. A buffet luncheon followed featuring fried catfish and shrimp, roast beef and an assortment of vegetables. The dessert selections were a choice of chocolate, coconut, or carrot cake.

At the conclusion of the meal members were escorted to the dock in front of the restaurant and boarded a pontoon boat for a tour of Caddo Lake. Plans to ride the steamboat that travels the waterways had to be altered due to the high waves and threatening weather. An entertaining and informative guide led members through the lake’s bayous which are filled with lush vegetation. Everyone agreed that it had been a delightful afternoon.

Members attending in addition to those mentioned previously were Cal Arnold, Mikie Clark, Sandy Dean, Jean Hamil, Cindy Murry, Betty Orms, Mary Ann Patterson, Melinda Smith and Raye White.
