Officers for the next two club years were elected at the recommendation of the nominating committee. They will be: President Bridgett Fowler, First Vice-President Jean Hamil, Second Vice-President Annette Herrmann, Recording Secretary Bettye Lou Smith, Corresponding Secretary Mary Ann Patterson, Assistant Secretary Sandy Dean, Treasurer Becky Skinner, Parliamentarian Reta Lewis, Club Reporter Raye White and Historian Rolinda Shipp.
The program for the day was a book review of Unflinching Courage by Kay Bailey Hutchinson presented by Reta Lewis. The book consists of brief biographies of twenty-five women who shaped Texas history. Following a brief outline of the author’s life and the book, Mrs. Lewis gave a comprehensive description of one of the subjects Emily Austin Bryan Perry. Mrs. Perry, a native of Missouri, followed her famous brother Stephen F. Austin when he moved to Texas in 1932. She became a successful business woman and land owner and helped establish the first Texas railroad as well as championing historical preservation before her death in 1851.
At the conclusion of the program, members were invited to serve themselves from a lovely tea table in the dining room. Refreshments consisted of Layered Strawberry Salad, Hot Chicken Salad, Cheese Straws, assorted truffles, pickles, olives and coffee.
Members in attendance in addition to those mentioned above included Cal Arnold, Annette Breazeale, Mikie Clark, Merle Cross, Betty Finney, Marynell Henry, Annette Herrmann, Cindy Murry, Jeannie Smith, Irma Williams and Margo Carter.
