Following the business meeting, a book review of Calvin Coolidge by Amity Shlaes by presented by Cindy Murry. The detailed biography covers the life of Coolidge from birth to death with particular emphasis on his economic policies. Coolidge believed in what today is referred to as "supply-side" economics. While president he not only cut income tax rates in half but also managed to lower the federal budget and significantly reduce the deficit created during World War I. In the book, Ms. Shlaes interjects not only her admiration for the president and his policies but also her opinion that many of these same principals need to be applied to cope with our current economic situation.
At the conclusion of the review, Mrs. Orms invited members to be served at the tea table where they enjoyed pecan almond worcestershire bites, stuffed olives, tomato and turkey spirals, dark chocolate covered blueberries and pomegranates, blueberry scones, coconut pecan cookies, divinity and coffee or iced coffee punch topped with chocolate shavings.
